​Using Place Value Counters to represent arithmetic procedures.

Place Value counters are plastic or foam discs. Different colour discs represent different values, such as 100s, 10s and 1s.

We can represent exchanging a 100 for ten 10s or a 10 for ten 1s. In this way we can represent the standard short written procedures for column addition and subtraction, short multiplication and short division.
