Hello and welcome to our class!

Our teachers are Mrs West (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and Mrs Gray (Thursday and Friday).

Our learning is cross curricular and is linked to our termly topic.

Our topic for the Summer Term is...

'Fabulous Food'

During the term we will be finding out about all different types of fabulous food.  We will look at different  food types and where our food comes from.   We will use stories such as 'Kitchen Disco', 'The Tiger who came to Tea', 'Supertato', 'Handa's Surprise', 'Oliver's Vegetables', 'Oliver's Fruit Salad', 'Pass the Jam Jim' and 'Jack and the Beanstalk' to support our learning.  Our role play area will be a rainforest cafe.  During the term, as well as our class PE lesson, we will continue to have our weekly PE session with Mr Coleman where we will be getting ready for Sports Day!  We are also starting to get ready for our transition into Year 1.

We have a designated Outdoor Learning session every Tuesday morning with one of our school governors Mrs Randall.

Work at home

In preparation for their transition into Year 1; each week the children will be expected to:

  • Read each night for 5-10 minutes – parents to write a brief note in the reading diary
  • Practise and learn spellings (given on a Monday tested the following Monday)

We had a 'beary' busy and exciting time last academic year!! We learnt about different types of bears, where they come from and what they like to eat.  We looked closely at famous bears like Paddington Bear and in our role play we retold the traditional story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We had lots of fun making porridge, marmalade sandwiches, bear toast and bear biscuits! The best bit was when we got to eat everything!!

We have a 'buddy' friend in Year 6.  Our buddies help us settle into school when we first start.  They play with us at playtimes/dinnertimes and sit with us in assemblies.  It is really nice having an older friend (buddy) in school to help and support us.
