Hello and welcome to our class!

Our teachers are Mrs West (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and Mrs Gray (Thursday and Friday).

Our learning is cross curricular and is linked to our termly topic.

Our topic for the Autumn Term is...

'Marvellous Me'

During the term we will be finding out about ourselves.  We will look at our own families, body parts, senses, feelings,  skeletons and different ways in which we use and move our bodies.   We will use stories such as 'Funnybones', 'We're all Wonders', 'My Mum and Dad make me Laugh', 'Once there were Giants', 'Oliver's Vegetables', 'Monkey Puzzle', 'Guess how much I love you', 'The Journey Home from Grandpa's' and 'How are you Feeling Today?' to support our learning.  Our role play area will be a home corner and there will also be opportunities for retelling Nursery Rhymes using props.  During the term, as well as our class PE lesson, we will have a weekly PE session with Mr Coleman (an outside PE specialist) where we will be learning lots of games and how to undress and dress ourselves independently.  Later on in the term we will also be looking at events such as Autumn, Diwali, Halloween, Bonfire Night and of course Christmas, where we will all take part in a Christmas production!

We have our own designated Outdoor Learning space, where we like to have fun and explore the great outdoors.

Work at home

All children will be expected to:

  • Read each night for at least 5-10 minutes (word cards and or reading book)  – parents to write a brief note in the reading diary

We have lots of fun in Reception! We had a 'beary' busy and exciting time when we learnt about different types of bears, where they come from and what they like to eat.  We looked closely at famous bears like Paddington Bear and in our role play we retold the traditional story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We had lots of fun making porridge, marmalade sandwiches, bear toast and bear biscuits! The best bit was when we got to eat everything!!

We have a 'buddy' friend in Year 6.  Our buddies help us settle into school when we first start.  They play with us at playtimes/dinnertimes and sit with us in assemblies.  It is really nice having an older friend (buddy) in school to help and support us.
