Friends of the School
About Friends of Great Alne Primary School
The Friends of Great Alne School aim to provide the extra things that enhance children’s school life. Every year we hold events to raise money and also some that are mainly for fun and to help the children feel part of the school as a whole rather than a specific class.
We run events during all three terms – some of which are specifically for the children such as quizzes, discos and competitions and some which are for the grown-ups such as quiz nights. We also hold at least 3 events every year for the whole family to enjoy – usually an Easter, Summer and Christmas fair.
The money that The Friends raise is spent in a number of different ways. There are regular things that we pay for such as the annual subscription to "First News" which is a childrens newspaper, and regular contributions to school trips to help keep the costs down (including the Y6 PGL trip). In the past few years, The Friends have funded the portable stage for the hall including the chairs and stacking trolley, the outdoor play area with climbing wall, new library furniture and books, a portable PA system, toys and equipment for use at break times and musical instruments.
The most recent items we have funded (2016-17) include the internet safety talk for parents, a much needed storage shed, in-house Viking workshops and we are about to purchase a greenhouse and gardening supplies for the weekly gardening club that all the children across the years have the chance to participate in. Items recently bought for the classrooms included Atlases, science books, thesauruses, storage furniture, CD and ipad listening centre and a number of CDs and headphones.
We have incredible support from the parents at Great Alne and are always looking for new committee members to help either with ideas or at events. Our current Chair is Abby Ratcliffe, Vice-Chair is Kyla Brown, Treasurer is Sarah Beadle and Secretary is Suzy Holder. Look out for the notice board outside school for when meetings are arranged and do please come along. You would be most welcome!
