Great Alne Primary School Governing Board

Our School Governing Body

Governors are a voluntary body of people who guide and support the strategic direction of the school.  They are members of the school team and their contribution to the running of the school is highly value. Great Alne operates a Circular Model of Governance.

The instrument of government states that the governing body shall consist of:-

  • 1 Local Authority Governor
  • 2 parent governors
  • 1 headteacher
  • 1 Federated headteacher
  • 1 staff Governor
  • 3 co-opted governors
  • The total number of governors will be and the term of office for all governors will be four years.

The role of the governing body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

  • Set the aims and objectives for the school
  • Set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards the achievement of its aims and objectives
  • Be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher

School Vision

At Great Alne Primary School we work as a close team of Governors and staff, parents and children, to achieve our aims. Governors support the school as much as is possible to continue to improve outcomes for all. We aim to improve the effectiveness of leadership and management of the school, for which we are responsible.

We continue to support the Head Teacher and staff in helping the children to develop positive attitudes and values for themselves and help to make sure our children are safe, healthy, confident and happy.

We believe these factors will enable our children to be successful learners who want to make a positive contribution to the wider community, and so develop life-long skills that will enable them to have the best possible futures.

Financial Information

Please note that we do not have any employees with a gross annual salary of more than £100,000.

As a school we recognise that a diversity of thought, voices and perspectives is essential to good governance and the effective running of any organisation. We regularly collect diversity information from our governors and, depending on current data, can use this to:

  • target recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity
  • develop and adapt board practices to ensure full participation
  • prioritise training and awareness - raising in identified areas
  • address potential 'blind spots' through seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges and risks.

However, we are unable to publish this information as it would mean that individual members of our governing body are identifiable.

We are always open to hearing your thoughts and feedback.

If you wish to contact the Governing Board, you can contact them via the school office: admin2024@welearn365.com / 01789 488247.
