For most children and adults, it’s what adds to the school experience that is so important for cementing those school memories.

Extra-curricular opportunities are a key part of primary education, providing children with the chance to explore interests, develop new skills, and grow in confidence outside the traditional classroom setting. At Great Alne Primary, we’re proud of the variety of activities we offer, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Tuesday- Forest School- Miss Williams

Three times a year the whole school goes to the Heart of England Forest to learn in depth about the natural world of wonder around us. Children develop their knowledge and understanding in a progressive manner, leaving at the end of Key Stage Two with a deep love of the forest and the learning they have shared there.

In addition, we have further strong ties with the local community. Our students represent the school at events like the Santa Run and enjoy visits to Great Alne Park retirement village, where they interact with older generations, learning empathy and respect. Our ‘Reading Buddy’ volunteers of all ages provide another fantastic opportunity for children to socialise, improve their reading skills, and gain confidence.

Every lunchtime, we open the Library for children to access a quiet space. Here they can read, play the piano or play board games with one of our army of volunteers. Children can borrow books  every Friday (using their library card) and even read to Ruby our reading dog!

Enriching school trips, such as visits to All Things Wild, a Sikh Gurdwara, and the RSC in Stratford upon Avon offer fun and educational experiences outside the classroom. These trips help bring learning to life, providing memorable experiences.

Altogether, these extra-curricular opportunities are essential for helping children develop a wide range of skills, broaden their horizons, and grow into well-rounded, confident young people.
