The Friends of Great Alne School aim to provide the extra things that enhance children’s school life. Every year we hold events to raise money and also some that are mainly for fun and to help the children feel part of the school as a whole rather than a specific class.
We run events during all three terms – some of which are specifically for the children such as quizzes, discos and competitions and some which are for the grown-ups such as quiz nights. We also hold at least 3 events every year for the whole family to enjoy – usually an Easter, Summer and Christmas fair.
The money that The Friends raise is spent in a number of different ways. There are regular things that we pay for such as the annual subscription to First News which is a childrens newspaper, and regular contributions to school trips to help keep the costs down (including the Y6 PGL trip). In the past few years, The Friends have funded the portable stage for the hall including the chairs and stacking trolley, the outdoor play area with climbing wall, new library and classroom furniture, books, a portable PA system, toys and equipment for use at break times and musical instruments.
The most recent items we have funded include the internet safety talk for parents and dedicated funding for the school gardening club (that all the children across the years have the chance to participate in). Items recently bought for the classrooms included an outdoor 'shop', books for R.E. including bibles, atlases, science books and thesauruses, storage furniture, CD and ipad listening centre and a number of CDs and headphones.
Thanks to the phenomenal success of our music festival 'Alne Fest' last Summer, Friends also raised a substantial sum which has been dedicated to the purchase of ICT equipment in school.
We have incredible support from the parents at Great Alne and are always looking for new committee members to help either with ideas or at events.
Our current Chair is Julie Gardner, Vice-Chair is Lisa Davey, Treasurer is Sarah Beadle and Secretary is Emmie Archer.
Look out for the notice board outside school for when meetings are arranged and do please come along. You would be most welcome!

There are over 2,700 online retailers available, including Amazon, John Lewis, eBay and Tesco and all will give a small percentage of what’s been spent back to to say thank you for shopping with them.
The 50 Club
Thank you to everyone who currently supports the Great Alne 50 Club. For those of you who do not know what this is, its essentially a lottery syndicate whereby members pay £2 per month for a predetermined number between 1-50 which gets entered into a monthly draw. The person with the number drawn then wins a cheque for £35 and their child/children currently attending the school win sweets.
The draws most commonly occur during sharing assemblies at the end of each half term and so we usually have a couple of months to draw each time.
All monies raised go to the Friends of the School in order to help support their fundraising plans and its amazing how much your £2 per month helps.
Should you want to join the club then please send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
You can choose to pay monthly by direct debit, or annually by direct debit or a written cheque for £24 for the year and membership runs all year round so you can join at any time. We currently have plenty of numbers available and so look forward to hearing from you!
Again thank you for your continued support.
