What a fantastic science week we’ve had!
We’ve had a great variety of events and activities from super slime to cuddly lambs, from square bubbles to gravity defying buckets of water, not to mention informative and fascinating jobs presented by parents and grandparents as well as activities lead by our amazing scientists of the future...all finished off with a trip to the Think Tank for Y5/6.

Great fun was had by all who attended Young Voices this year at Resorts World, Birmingham.
After all the hard work practising the songs, Mrs Brereton, Mrs Cusack and Mrs Watt all said it was amazing, and sounded brilliant!
Thank you Mrs Brereton for organising this opportunity once again!

Staff and children are enjoying taking part in mental health awareness week again in school. This year's theme "Find Your Brave" has been embraced by all.
Bravery comes in all shapes and sizes and is different to everyone.  We all have times when we need to 'find our brave'.  We have been learning about how life is all about taking small brave steps every day: sharing worries, asking for help when you need it, trying something new or making the right choices.  We have been using these tools to help build our confidence and self-esteem which is making us feel better about ourselves.
The school community has been taking part in activities throughout the week, including:
  • Sharing our own experiences of finding our brave - including talking about special objects or times when we've had to find our brave.
  • Talking about times we have learnt a new skill, persevered to overcome something difficult or asked for help to conquer a fear.
  • Miss Machiko led the classes in yoga sessions, in which we learned to use exercise to support our own well-being
As a fundraising effort, we raised £95.00 through our sports themed non-uniform day!  Thank you for everyone who donated.  This money will be used to purchase our well-being first aid kits.

Everyone had a spook-tacular time at the Friends' Association annual Halloween disco!  The party games were a huge success, with the toilet paper 'Mummy' game a firm favourite again.
FoS tell us it’s the most raised from a disco!  Well done, and thank you to everyone who helped organise and volunteer!

This year we are running Gardening Club as an after school activity.
Miss Jones and Mrs Brown have very kindly taken it on with the assistance of Music Teacher Mrs Brereton.
The children have been really enjoying the sessions and we can't wait to see the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labour.

Children's Mental Health Awareness Week 2019

Our parents and pupils have been helping to support Mental Health Awareness Week in school.

The pupils have all really enjoyed the various activities and talks throughout the week and it has led us to some really positive discussions.  Please find attached photos of some pupils demonstrating their newly acquired yoga skills to the representative of Stratford Mind charity.

I'm very proud to say that our non-uniform fundraiser raised £168.00 for our local branch of 'Mind'.

I was really astonished to find out that the Mind charity in Worcester and Warwickshire are their own hub, called Springfield Mind.  They do not receive any funding from Mind head quarters.  As such their fundraising is what sustains them and the donation we gave today makes a huge difference.

The support they offer in the wider community is awesome, they gave our children hand-outs about small steps they can take now to help them have a healthy mind.

To promote healthy playtimes, we will be implementing a 'Regulation Station' at the school.  This will consist of alternative activities for pupils who feel the need to have a quieter break.  Activities such as colouring and puppets have been suggested by the pupils.  This will perfectly compliment the colouring club which runs twice a week at lunch times.

Our school choir had a fabulous time at this year's Young Voices concert at the Birmingham NEC, singing with thousands of other children along with professional musicians. As always children were a credit to the school. Highlights were songs from the Greatest Showman and singing along with special guests, including Tony Hadley. Thank you to parents for supporting this and coming along to watch the concert.

We were very fortunate to be contacted by Mr Badham.  Mr Badham is a teacher at Alcester Academy and is responsible for their Rock Academy.  We invite the Rock Academy (very talented musicians) to perform at the school every year.
This time Mr Badham wanted to offer some of our musicians the opportunity to work together as a band and perform using sound technicians to give a it a really polished stage feel.
The pupils learned so much about stage presence and collaboration during this experience, and everyone had a really fabulous time.  At the end of the day, the newly formed Great Alne band treated the entire school to an amazing rendition of Rag and Bone Man's 'Human'.
