Year 1/2

Hello and welcome to our class

We are a mixed year 1 and 2 class who love learning.
Our learning is cross curricular and is linked to our termly topic.

Our topic for the Autumn Term is..

Towers, Turrets, Dragons and Dungeons

Picture
During the first half term we will be learning about different types of castles and how they were used for defence and attack.  Our focus will change in the second half term to explore the wonderful world of dragons!

English: Most of our learning is cross-curricular. Our English lessons are often based around a book related to our topic. This half term we will be focusing on a book called ''Rapunzel' by Bethan Woolvin which is slightly different to the original tale. We will explore other versions of this tale and compare them. During the second half term, our texts will be 'Tell me a dragon' by Jackie Morris and 'The Egg Box Dragon'

Maths:  We use concrete resources, such a cubes, Numicon and counters to help us to develop strong foundations in maths before moving on to more abstract concepts. Our focus this term will be place value, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

Topic: Our science lessons  link to our topic, so we will be looking at materials that are used to build castles. We will also be looking at which material would be the best for: the jester's tights, to mop up the king's ale, to blackout the castle windows etc.

Please see our Curriculum letter for more detail on this exciting topic.

"We will enjoy educational visits to the Heart of England forest this half term. This term we will be focusing on the story of Rapunzel and the children will enjoy building tower out of natural materials.

Home Learning
It will help your child if they read regularly at home. Please share the book your child brings home, but remember to read to them too . New online books will be sent home soon.

They have a Spelling Test every Wednesday. Tests will  be based on the 'phonic focus' of the week or words they read frequently. Spellings will be sent home weekly in a book to be brought back to school on a Wednesday.

Maths Homework will be sent home on a Tuesday and returned on a Monday.
