Hello and welcome to our class
We are a mixed year 1 and 2 class who love learning.
Our learning is cross curricular and is linked to our termly topic.
Our topic for the Summer Term is...
Carnival of Animals
Maths: We use lots of different resources to reach our potential. We use concrete resources, such a cubes, Numicon and counters to help us to develop strong foundations in maths before moving on to more abstract concepts.
e enjoy using our outdoor learning environment and we explore the Conservation Area as part of our maths lessons.
English: All of our learning is cross-curricular. Our English lessons are often based around a book related to our topic, such as Fantastic Mr Fox when we were learning about animals and Where the Wild Things Are when we were learning about rainforests. When we were learning aboout toys, we based our lessons around Dogger and Traction Man. We spend lots of time listening to, reading, performing and writing poetry too.
Science: Our science lessons are interesting and fun! They link to our topic, so we have designed a space suit for a bear, investigated the conditions needed to grow plants in the rainforest and compared different paw prints. We particularly enjoy investigating and exploring outside.
"We do lots of exciting activities!"
"We enjoy educational visits to different places, such as The Black Country Living Museum and The Kingsbury Waterpark"
Work at home
Children in Year 1/2 are expected to read at home everyday. Please read the book your child brings home, ask them questions and make reading fun!
They have a Spelling Test every Wednesday. Tests will always be based on the 'phonic focus' of the week. Tests are marked with the children, with new spellings handed out directly following this. Please ensure that you help your child to learn their spellings.
