Year 3/4

Hello and welcome to our class


Spring Term 2022
We are a mixed year 3 and 4 class
Our learning is cross curricular and is linked to our termly topic.

Our topic for this term is... 

Journeys (Rivers & Mountains)


​English:
  Our English will be based around our topic.
We will be reading several texts including both fiction and non-fiction including:
Noah's Ark, 
Norah’s Ark - Ann Cartwright
The Boat - Helen Ward
Mrs Noah’s Pockets – Jackie Morris
Rhythm of the Rain - Grahame Baker-Smith
Rushing Rivers & Journey to Jo'burg.

Our writing will focus on: Story Writing, Letter Writing, Speech, Description and Information texts.

There will also be spelling work, reading comprehension alongside grammar and punctuation work.


Maths: This term, we will be focusing on Multiplication and Division, Length, Fractions, Money and Statistics. 

Science: We will be learning about States of Matter and Forces/Magnets.

Geography: The Water Cycle, Rivers and Mountains.

DT: We will be investigating and making juggling balls.

Art: African Art

PSHE: This term, we will focus on the Taking Care Project -  Keeping myself safe and Rights and Responsibilities.

Computing: We will be learning to Programme.  This will include LOGO, Animation and Coding.

RE: We will think about the following questions:
       What do different people believe about God?
       Why are festivals important to religious communities?


Music: We will be learning to play the recorder and will build on our singing and composing.
​

French: We will learning about: months and birthdays, colours, body parts, On the way to school, Where in the World is French spoken? and On our Travels.

PE: We will be learning gymnastics and dance 
 


​Our homework this term:

We will be using Times Tables Rock Stars to practise our tables both at home and in school. Your child is expected to practise 20 games per week (minimum).

Children will be given weekly spelling words to learn every Monday. They will be given a sheet on which they should practise. The sheet is to be handed in, complete, on the following Monday morning.

We expect all children to read every day (preferably with an adult). Children have a reading diary to be written in each time they are heard reading.
