Years 5/6

Hello and welcome to our class

We are a mixed year 5 and 6 class

Spring Term 2019
English
:
We are very excited to begin using the 'Talk for Writing' process this term to help pupils develop their writing skills. Most of our work will be based on the book 'Wonderstruck', and will include writing a suspense story, character descriptions and non-chronological reports. We will also be studying the narrative poem 'The Highwayman'.
Maths: Reasoning & problem solving using number, shape, space and measures will be ongoing throughout the year.
Spring term topics include:  Prime numbers, factors & multiples; fractions, decimals and percentages; angles

History: Anglo-Saxons
Geography: mapwork linked to our English texts
Science: Light; Properties of materials
Computing: E-safety; data handling and multi-media
R.E. our key question is 'Is God real?'
Music: we will be exploring sound sources as well as developing singing and rhythm skills.

This term, Year 6 will also begin to prepare for their SATs tests which take place in the week beginning Monday 13th May 2019. 
There will be more information for parents of Year 6 children later this term.
Working at Home

Each week the children wil be expected to:
  • Read each night – and note this in their reading diary
  • Practise their times table of the week (tested on Thursdays)
  • Complete their mental arithmetic homework (handed in on Mondays) 
  • Practise and learn spellings (tested on Wednesdays)
  • Complete a class homework task (handed in on Wednesdays)
